I’ve always wanted to be one of those people that has a sourdough starter and makes a fresh loaf every week. In fact, a year ago I made and fed a sourdough starter daily until it was just about ready for baking, and then we had to go out of town for a week and I never came back to it. Maybe one day when I can have another living thing to take care of in my life, I will try again, but until then, I am so happy that I found out about Wildgrain Box. If you haven’t heard of them, it’s a subscription box filled with fresh sourdough bread, homemade pastas and other delicious goods that gets delivered to your door. You keep them frozen until you’re ready to enjoy, pop it in the oven and you have fresh, delicious sourdough 20 minutes later. Check them out here if you’re interested!
Now onto the really good stuff. We have a few Italian restaurants nearby that we essentially just go to for the bread and butter that’s served before your meal. I made some sourdough the other night with dinner and decided to try my hand at making some herb butter. It is so simple but elevates things to another level.
Ingredients:
1 cup salted butter
handful of fresh basil
4 cloves garlic
Salt to taste
Place garlic and basil in food processor until nice and chopped, add butter and mix until combined. Season with salt to taste. Serve immediately or keep and savor it as long as possible!
I like to use room temperature butter, but if you only have cold butter, just add in some drops of warm water to help it combine with the other ingredients. The water will remain in the food processor once it’s all mixed up so you will not be left with watered down butter.
This is now a staple item I make regularly to keep for all the things. Hope you enjoy!
